Emma Navarro is an American professional tennis player who was born on May 18, 2001. In June 2024, Navarro achieved a career-high position of No. 17 in the WTA singles rankings and No. 120 in the doubles rankings.

She competed in college tennis at Virginia, where in 2021 she won the NCAA Singles Championship. At the 2024 Hobart International, she took home her maiden WTA Tour victory.

After winning 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday in the tournament’s fourth round, Navarro became the first player to advance to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam match, which also includes the Australian, French, and U.S. Opens.

Navarro enters the competition ranked 19th.

I’m really thankful to be here on Center Court, at a tournament with so much history and tradition that so many legends have played on before me” she said after the match. “I don’t have a lot of words to say. “It is truly an honor.”

According to Navarro, during the match she and Gauff were both attempting to hinder the other’s forehand stroke.

I adore matches like that where it seems like there’s more going on than just hitting and striking the woman remarked. It was really enjoyable for me because there is strategy involved and it feels like a chess match or something.

In all of her appearances at Wimbledon, including in 2019 and 2021 at the age of 15, Gauff has been eliminated in the fourth round.

In the second round, Navarro also triumphed over Naomi Osaka. Up next, she will take on Jasmine Paolini of Italy.

The most recent top-seeded woman to leave Wimbledon was Gauff. Iga Swiatek, ranked first, lost over the weekend, and Markéta Vondroušová, the current Wimbledon champion lost last week.
